Objectives

Participants will learn:

  • Tips for creating effective evacuation plans
  • When children are too sick and when they can return to school
  • Nutrition guidelines for young children

Tips for your Evacuation Plan

  • follow your written plans and procedures
  • enough caregivers for evacuation and supervision

Things to take:

  • a written list of all children and their ages;
  • each child's medications,
  • each child's medical consent forms and emergency contact information for parents or managing conservators;
  • a first-aid kit; and
  • a communication device such as a cellular phone, message pager, or two-way radio.

Ask yourself:

Infants:

  • Which crib is the evacuation crib?
  • How many infants can I plAugust 24, 2007-packed evacuation bag? What could I include in it?

Ask yourself:

Toddlers:

  • How do I ensure that all children are accounted for?
  • How do I prepare the children for evacuation?
  • Do I have a pre-packed bag to take?
  • Who’s going to come and help me?

Ask yourself:

  • How do we prepare our parents?
  • In a real situation what do you think they would be experiencing?
  • What can I do to ease their anxiety?

The Young and the Restless

  • prevents them from participating comfortably
  • results in greater needs for care from the staff
  • Temp – Oral 100.4, rectal 101.4, armpit 99.5 and
  • Has behavioral changes that indicates illness

Nutrition Guidelines for Infants

  • Wash Hands
  • Breast Is Best But Bottle Is OK
  • Heat Bottles Carefully
  • Nix Mixing Cereal And Formula In The Bottle
  • Slow Down On Adding Solids

Nutrition Guidelines for Toddlers

Transitional Period:

  • Infants towards a diet like yours
  • Have little tummies – foods packed with nutrients
  • Explore self feeding
  • Offer a variety of healthy foods
  • 3 meals and 2 or 3 snacks

Snack ideas for toddlers

  • Chopped bananas
  • Steamed peas and broccoli
  • Small cubes of cheese and watermelons (no seeds)
  • Fruit smoothies
  • Yogurt
  • Fresh fruit
  • Pureed vegetables & fruit
