Ph.D. Texas A&M-College Station. Education Curriculum and Instruction/Language Literacy and Culture-1994. Dr. Crawford has 20 years experience in academia, specializing in reading/literacy education. She uses her experience as a certified teacher and reading specialist to enhance her research, evaluations and consulting projects. She initially became involved with Even Start over ten years ago during her dissertation research. This study was a longitudinal examination of what happens to Hispanic families when their child is the only reading member. Her dissertation, as well as many of her subsequent publications, focused upon developing models and best practices for family literacy. Dr. Crawford regularly instructs graduate teacher research and evaluation courses, while working as a consultant for various literacy programs and school districts. She believes in providing hands-on, on-going, evaluation services that assist program development throughout the year. She is dedicated to ensuring that her services provide valuable information for supporting Even Start programs in their quest to advance literacy and serve families.
