Procedure for Training on the Implementation of the
Texas Adult Education Content Standards & Benchmarks
In order to build capacity of local programs to implement the Texas Adult Education Content Standards & Benchmarks, the following procedures have been implemented statewide.
- Training in content standards implementation is provided exclusively through the eight regional GREAT Centers, which utilize the services of individuals who have successfully completed a state-level training-of-trainers/retraining institute that was redeveloped and conducted by Project GREAT through the Content Standards Committee in November 2008.
- Standards Trainers who were originally trained prior to November 2008 are required to be retrained in order to maintain their certification as a Content Standards Trainer.
- Status as a certified Texas Content Standards Trainer must be maintained by participation in a statewide meeting/training conducted by Project GREAT annually or as deemed necessary by Texas LEARNS. This annual trainers’ meeting may be scheduled to coincide with the TALAE Conference.
- A Content Standards Committee composed of state leadership and GREAT Centers personnel provides advice to Texas LEARNS on the content and procedures regarding the content standards training and implementation of content standards.
- A list of certified Texas Content Standards Trainers is maintained for Project GREAT by TCALL, along with an email discussion list used for communications with and among that group. Please contact Ken Appelt at TCALL for more information.
- The format of the Texas Content Standards Training conducted by certified trainers will consist of a 6-hour institute followed by a 3-hour follow-up training conducted 6 to 10 weeks later.
- Print copies of the Texas Content Standards Implementation Guides are available from the Clearinghouse at TCALL (while supplies last) only in conjunction with a training conducted by a certified Content Standards Trainer. The Guide is also published on the TCALL/Texas LEARNS Website.
- Texas LEARNS, considering the recommendation of the Content Standards Committee, will designate Trainers-of-Trainers for Content Standards, who would be able to train other trainers at any time, but they themselves must maintain this status by attending all statewide standards retraining meetings, and submit an application demonstrating an understanding of standards principles as well as evidence of success as a trainer (training evaluations, letters of reference, etc.)
