Adult Education Administrator's Manual Revised August 2007
Instructional Services Distance EducationDistance Education is learning that takes place outside the traditional Adult Education classroom where the teacher and student are separated by different physical settings. Students will need to complete orientation and have a pre-test. Students will be monitored by a distance learning teacher who will conduct pre and post testing and adjust assignments as the student continue to achieve. Distance Education can involve online instruction as well as video/PBS resources. Message from Texas LEARNS: Counting distance learning hours of instruction in the current “contact-hour” funding formula has created a challenge that must be addressed with a change or different interpretation of the definition of “contact hour.” The National Reporting System (NRS) also has a definition that does not clearly define contact hour and the ability to document these hours as contact hours for funding. Texas LEARNS has begun the application process to join a national consortium to investigate ways to overcome these barriers and begin actively pursuing and funding the exciting world of distance learning.
