TALAE is committed to promoting professional development for adult education teachers and administrators in the state of Texas.
The Texas Adult Education Credential project was developed in a field-based process that began in 1998 in response to a call from the field and TALAE for a credential to help professionalize adult education. The Texas Adult Education Teacher Credential Model is based on Professional Development that individual teachers select. Instructors prepare a professional development plan and submit written reflections after the implementation of knowledge or skills obtained through participation in professional development activities. The Administrator Credential was developed in a parallel process, in which Texas Administrators helped to determine both the content and the structure of the Model.
In an effort to encourage adult educators to pursue the Texas Adult Education Teacher or Administrator Credential, TALAE Board Members have committed funds to acknowledge educators’ dedication to the field of adult education. TALAE Board Members voted to provide a $100 stipend to the first 200 teachers or administrators who obtain a credential and to recognize the recipients at TALAE’s annual state conference.
