State rate guest rooms ($85/single; $120/double) are available at the host hotel, Corpus Christi's Omni Bayfront Hotel
February 5, 2008 is the deadline to reserve the rooms at that conference/state rate; however, be aware that the rooms may all be taken long before February 5. Please visit the hotel "Landing Page" to make state-rate guest room reservations. You do not need to add any group name since the membership number is already there for you. You will find that the page shows the conference dates as February 25 - March 2, 2008 - though the conference is actually February 28 - March 1. Don't be concerned about that discrepancy which is necessary due to varied arrivals and departures. In making your reservation from that page, you will tell the system the dates you will check in and check out.

Evenings of February 27-29 at the Hilton Garden Inn Corpus Christi - A full service hotel with guest room hospitality center and complimentary high-speed internet access plus additional amenities. Contact Information: Call hotel directly 361-991-8200, 6717 SPID, Corpus Christi, TX 78412. Conference Group is TALAE 2008 Conference. Cut off for room availability is Wednesday, 2/13/08.
Evenings of February 27-29 at the Holiday Inn - Emerald Beach - Located downtown with complementary high speed internet and airport transportation plus additional amenities. Contact Information: Call hotel directly 361-883-5731, 1102 South Shoreline Blvd, Corpus Christi, 78401. Conference Group is TAL. Cut off for room availability is Thursday, 2/14/2008.
Common to both overflow hotels:
- Note hotel room availability cut off dates.
- Must have occupancy tax form. Hotel may have their own form, but it is best to bring one yourself.
- No transportation provided for group. You are own your own.
- Check websites for maps.
Early Bird Registration Discounts
You will see on the TALAE Conference 2008 registration form that for the first time TALAE is offering early bird registration rates for the two- and three-day registration options. So, be sure and register by January 18 to take advantage of savings of up to $100 compared to late registration. As in the last few years, NO on-site registration will be accepted.
New!! "One-Stop Shopping" for TALAE Registration and Related Events
For the first time, the TALAE Conference 2008 registration form includes all activities related to the conference that will require registration. This year TALAE and TCALL worked together with help from Texas LEARNS to create a single registration form and process, so there will be no separate registration processes coming up for Texas LEARNS business meetings or other special trainings. The registration form and your TALAE membership form, as well as checks or purchase orders (made out to TALAE), will all go to TCALL as the central registration Clearinghouse.

As you can see on the TALAE Conference 2008 registration form , TALAE did not charge different rates for TALAE members and non-members, hoping to simplify the process. You do have the option to join at the bottom of the form and a membership form is included as a second page. You are highly encouraged to join TALAE. The TALAE membership fees supply approximately 30% of the funding for the annual conference and 100% for the student (Academic) and teacher (Teacher Credential) scholarship programs.

An Evening at the Texas State Aquarium
At the 2008 TALAE Conference, don't miss... An Evening at the Texas State Aquarium with TALAE Past Presidents' Reception, Wednesday, February 27, 2008 from 7:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.
Located on Corpus Christi Bay, the Texas State Aquarium is the premier aquarium showcasing the Gulf of Mexico, and offers spectacular views of downtown Corpus Christi. The entire Aquarium facility will be devoted to this come-and-go reception, which will feature substantial hors 'douvres and a cash bar. While socializing with colleagues, you can watch the bottlenose dolphins play in the underwater-viewing room at Dolphin Bay. Or check out The Hawn Wild Flight Theater, site of the Aquarium's new birds of prey show.
Registration is required, and there is a $15/person charge for the Evening at the Aquarium. See the Special Events section of the TALAE 2008 Conference registration form. Additional tickets for guests to attend this special event may also be purchased using that same registration form.
