Activity Title - How To Write a Winning Essay Goal/Objective The student will write a well-organized essay. Lesson Outline/Introduction Review the key elements of a good essay with students before this activity. This lesson will help the student write an essay.Activity Give the students an essay topic. Brainstorm individual's reasons with the students and write on board. Have students do an outline of their essay. Review the requirements for a well-written essay. Share samples of well-written essays. Assist students in preparing their final draft. Debriefing/Evaluation Activity Have students share their essay with the class and critique. Using the critiques, have the students rewrite their essays. |

Activity Title - How To Write a Winning Essay Introduction Say : We are going to develop a winning essay similar to the type you will be writing for the GED Test. We will brainstorm sample ideas for a topic you want to write about. You will be able to better understand how to develop and write an essay. Main Activity Say: Your GED diploma is important to you. Write on the board, "The reasons that obtaining a GED diploma is important to me." Have the students brainstorm their reasons and write on the board. Have them develop an outline and write their essay. Remember to review the criteria for an effective essay. Closure/Conclusion When they have finished their essay draft, have them share with the class to critique and make suggestions to improve the effectiveness of each essay.
