Goal/Objective

To understand percents.

Lesson Outline/Introduction

Discuss with students how to read stock quotes.
Discuss with students how to identify Microsoft stock.

Activity

Hand out copies of the market listing and show students how to identify Microsoft stock. Next, show the students how to read the stock exchange report and how to create a graph to chart the changes in the stock.

Review each student's words to see whether they follow any of the rules in the handout.

Say: We are going to chart Microsoft stock for six weeks and discuss the changes in percents.

Main Activity

Hand out copies of the market listing and show students how to identify Microsoft stock.

Show the students how to read the stock exchange report.

Hand out chart paper and demonstrate to the students how to chart the changes.

Closure/Conclusion

After six weeks discuss the percent changes in Microsoft stock.

Follow-up lessons/Activities

Have students bring in sale ads and discuss how much they would save from the percent off price.
