Activity Title - Newspaper Article on Afghanistan for Critical Thinking Goal/Objective To use informational text reading skills in reading comprehension. Lesson Outline/Introduction Discuss with students the nature of Afghanistan and its culture. Review the history of the Taliban leaders in Afghanistan.Activity Hand out copies of the article and have students read and discuss the article and discuss the strategies to answer the question. Read the story carefully to discover the main topic of the passage. Next, eliminate choices that seem unimportant or unrelated to the main topic. Then, of the remaining choices, look for the one that provides the most vital information. Debriefing/Evaluation Activity Have students review and discuss article for comprehension. |

Activity Title - Newspaper Article on Afghanistan for Critical Thinking Introduction This selection tells a short story of Afghanistan's history. It was written shortly after the terrorists attacks in New York City and Washington D.C. Main Activity Hand out copies of the article. Have students read the articles. Discuss with the students the strategies to answer the question. Read the story carefully to discover the main topic of the passage. Next, eliminate choices that seem unimportant or unrelated to the main topic. Then, of the remaining choices, look for the one that provides the most vital information. Ask the students the following questions:
Closure/Conclusion Review the article and discuss inferences made on Afghanistan and Al-Queda. Follow-up lessons/Activities Have students bring in newspaper articles on Al-Queda and the war in Iraq to read and discuss inferences. |
