CONSENT FORM
The Effectiveness of Texas Standardized Curriculum
Framework
I give my consent to be part of the research study investigating
the effectiveness of the Texas Standardized Curriculum Framework, conducted
by Don Seaman, Chia-Yin Chen and Lesley Tomaszewski of the Texas Center
for the Advancement of Literacy and Learning. This project will involve
approximately 100 administrators and teachers currently involved with
adult education programs and 200 current adult education students.
- The purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness
of the Texas Standardized Curriculum Framework and develop adult
education standards for Texas.
- I agree to take part in a focus group with students in my program
and I understand that the focus group meeting will last approximately
one hour. During the meeting I will be asked to give my perspective
of what I believe the needs of adult learners in Texas are. At anytime
during the meeting I can refuse to answer questions that may make
me uncomfortable.
- I understand that meeting will be audio taped and if I do not
want to be audio taped, the researchers will turn off the recorder.
I can still participate in the study without being audiotaped. The
tape recording of my interview will be kept by the researchers in
a secure place and will be made available to only the researchers
and a transcriber.
- I understand that there is risk associated with this research
but it is unlikely to occur.
- I understand that my participation in this study is entirely voluntary;
I can withdraw my participation completely at any time without penalty
and it will not affect my relations with the program I am in.
- I understand that I will receive a fifteen dollars at the end
of the focus group meeting for my participation.
- I understand that my identity will be kept confidential. I am
aware that this information is for research purposes and may be available
to the general public in the form of conference presentations, journal
or articles. I will not be personally identified in any reports.
- The researchers will answer my questions about the research at
any time. If desired I can receive a report of the findings of this
study.
