Introduction Percents are used in everyday life: money management, cooking and shopping and day-to-day business affairs. Percents are used to make life functional. |

Activity Use one dollar to show the relationship between fractions, decimals, and percents. Illustrate with pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters. Students should be able to understand the value of money. |
Extension / Enrichment Activity

Evaluation Activity Provide a test of ten questions on converting the value of money to percent with at least an 80% passing rate. |

Real-Life Connection Students are to create an imaginary shopping trip during an advertised percent off sale and early bonus. Students will choose ten items to purchase. Make ten problems out of purchases: price of articles, reduced price, percentage off and final cost of items. Students will be able to determine the percentage of the savings. |
Bridges Accommodations Students will break into two groups. They will be allowed extra time to complete assignment. |
Benchmark Assessment There will be ten items on teacher-generated quiz. |
