Multiplication of mixed numbers.

Mastery of whole numbers. Able to perform basic operations with whole numbers.

Introduction

How fractions are used in everyday life: cooking, medical field, office workers, and people who use measurements such as a seamstress or carpenter.

Activity

Bring pizzas to class and divide into pieces; orange segments; fractional proportions with M and M’s.

Extension / Enrichment Activity

Bring measuring cups to show relationship of measurements in multiplication of items.

Have students review by multiplying into smaller pieces.

Real-Life Connection

Making pizza from scratch. Manipulate recipe based on number of students.
