Activity Teach lesson on what comprises a complete sentence. Use analogy of freeway pileup due to failure of brakes. Review terms. Introduce brief mini lesson on subject, predicate = complete sentence using formula S+P=CS to plug in pieces. Mini lesson on run-on sentences by demonstrating several examples on board and assign exercise to identify fragment, run-ons and make appropriate corrections. |
Extension / Enrichment Activity Mini lesson on run-on sentences by demonstrating several examples on board. Assign exercise to identify fragment, run-ons and make appropriate corrections. Have students write brief note to partner using complete sentences. Have student partner evaluate for accuracy, give feedback and make corrections, if necessary. |
Evaluation Activity Students will demonstrate understanding by writing three original fragments, three run-ons, four complete sentences and punctuate four complete sentences correctly. Volunteers will share answers. |
