Lesson Title - Ow! Where does it hurt?

Materials/Supplies

Overhead, laser pointer, transparency with song or power point demo with LCD projector, pictures with body parts, CD or tape player with song, one girl and one boy doll.

Objective

Student will be able to locate his/her body parts and tell where it hurts.

Vocabulary

nose, mouth, head, tooth (teeth), mouth, ear (s), leg(s), throat, eye(s), arms, back, chest, stomach, hand(s), toes, foot (feet), shoulders, knees.

Text Books

Stand Out 1, pg.101 - 102
Oxford Picture Dictionary

Activity/Procedures:

  1. Show body parts either your body or parts of the doll (no words on board yet)
  2. Practice the vocabulary (students should say words at least five times)
  3. Then provide a vocabulary list (practice vocabulary again)
  4. Explain possessive adjectives (my, your, his, etc.) and "does".
  5. Practice answering the question "Where does it hurt?” and the student answers, "My arm hurts", etc.
  6. Teacher will ask a question. Example "Show me your head?” etc. Students should point to their heads.
  7. Distribute copies to students of words to the song, "Head, shoulders, knees and toes".
  8. Students first listen to song, and then teacher sings and demonstrates. Then students stand and sing and act out the song. Teacher should use Laser Pointer to indicate words as they are sung.
  9. Homework: write five sentences about "Where does it hurt?"

Evaluation/Assessment:

  1. Group class. - Calisthenics in unison (pointing to parts with your right hand). Teacher can see easily who is not responding.
  2. Students stand in circle and say a sentence "Her (the doll) arm hurts". Doll is passed or thrown from student to student. No repeats on body parts; teacher can use different doll if there are many students.
