Activity/Procedures

Warm-up /review: Student will make a name plate with construction paper folded in three parts lengthwise to form a 3-deminsional triangle shape. Include personal info-name (large in center), in each corner add country of origin, married/single, number of children and/or job

Write names of all students on the board.

Introduction: Explain that the class will be learning English while getting to know one another, and also learning about alphabetization, questions and pronouns.

Presentation: Introduce alphabetization and have class in mixed-level groups of 5-7 alphabetize the first names of students in their group. Have students stand in line in alphabetical order. Level one students practice spelling their names.

Introduce question words and questions-What is your name? Where are you from? Are you married? How many children do you have? Where do you work? Share greeting dialogue - My name is____. Nice to meet you.

Practice: Ask 5 students the questions we have introduced. Share the information about one student with the class. Students respond "Nice to meet you!!!"

Toss a ball or bean bag to a student and have them introduce themselves and a partner using the proper personal pronouns-my/his/her name is _____.

Dictate an appropriate question sentence to each level of student.

Students fill in student names in a blank Bingo grid. Draw names for Getting to Know You Bingo. When student's name is drawn student stands and bows to cheering class.
