Objective

Student will be able to identify medical emergencies and complete an accident report.

Activity/Procedures

Review -Describe chest pains, illnesses, injuries, and dental problems. Student mimes problem. Others guess problem and diagnose.

Introduce picture of medical emergencies on overhead. Students generate vocabulary from picture.

Present the picture of the medical emergency of the person choking. Students generate vocabulary from the picture and write word on card to display. Reread and categorize words as adj., adv., prep., and other.

Practice by showing Heimlich Maneuver video. Discuss the procedures step by step, while students practice on themselves.

Evaluation/Assessment

The students pair in groups of three. Write procedures for adult (standing, lying), child, and self (four procedures) on transparency. Class corrects grammar and procedures on transparency. Write in journals.

Three-Person group demonstrates-one victim, one rescuer, and one narrator.

Students teach family or friend the Heimlich maneuver. Write a short report with the following:

How -explain step by step

Who -taught to

Why -procedure taught

Grammatical Focus

Use adjectives, adverbs, and prepositions in sentences.
