Activity/Procedures

Warm-Up : This activity is designed for the first class day. The teacher welcomes students, introduces self, and sets stage for the class and activity.

Introduction: The teacher explains the activity - an orientation to each other.

Activity: Students form a circle; they are wearing pre-made nametags. There is a repetition of names going around the circle. Each student states their name and then the names of the others in the class in round-robin fashion. For re-enforcement: Have each student toss a small beanbag to classmate saying name as they do so. This may be extended by alphabetizing, writing name with proper capitalization, etc.

    • Report personal information
    • Make formal & informal introductions, greetings, farewells

    • Use telephone greetings, leave & take a message

Evaluation/Assessment

Students are successful in remembering names; there is carry-over in that they use names in conversation with each other.

Extension of above:

  1. First Letter
  2. Beginning, middle, and ending sounds
  3. Alphabetize
  4. Tie in to Standards 18, 22, and 23.
