Objective

Student will be able to describe family members.

Vocabulary

For review: mother/father, grandmother, grandfather, wife/husband, brother/sister, etc.

Expansion vocabulary: aunt/uncle, niece/nephew, cousin, in-laws, children, parents, paternal and maternal, etc. (as desired)

Text Books

Oxford Picture Dictionary and Workbook, pp24-25

Side by Side, Level 1 (pp. 45-48)

Activity/Procedures

  1. Have students introduce family members in their photos.
  2. Review of vocabulary and expansion of family member titles.
    Role-play an entire family as a class, each person representing one family member. Question/answer for further review of family titles
  3. WH questions about family members (in a text)
    (oral and/or written)
  4. Write about your family - (a paragraph, to be finished for homework).

Evaluation/Assessment

  1. Students will identify family members on a worksheet (pp. 24-25 Oxford Picture Dictionary)
  2. Students will draw and label their family tree (including a minimum of two siblings of theirs).

Grammatical Focus

  1. WH questions and answers
  2. Correct use of is/are
  3. Present continuous verb use
  4. Personal pronouns
  5. Possessive personal pronouns
  6. Word sequencing for questions.
