Before you begin

Title: Writing a Check

Objective: To recognize, organize and present information for financial survival.

Materials: Pencils, projector, copy of check format and utility bills.

Estimated time needed to prepare for this lesson plan: 30 minutes

Estimated time needed to complete this lesson plan: 1 hour

The Lesson Plan

Introduce the lesson:
Show copies of utility bills and check book with register.

Teach the lesson:
Teach writing numbers 1-100. Write out the numbers. Go over format, proper location, and proper money symbols.

Practice the lesson:
Copies of checks and practice filling out the checks by writing checks to utility companies.

Assess the lesson:
Observe students, editing when needed. Students may work in pairs.

Apply the lesson to the real world:
Practice writing checks to enhance skills and comprehension of numbers, addresses, life skills, cultural recognition, signatures, and dates.
