Before you begin

Title: Meeting and Introducing People

Setting: ESL

Standard (s): ESL Convey Ideas in Writing

Benchmark(s): 2.2

Objective: To effectively introduce self to others in writing.

Materials: Paper, pencils, pens, copy of interview

Estimated time needed to prepare for this lesson plan: 10 to 15 minutes

Estimated time need to complete this lesson plan: 1 hour

The Lesson Plan

Introduce the lesson:
Model an interview.

Teach the lesson:
Review the types of questions that could be asked during an interview, then review possible responses to each of the interview questions.

Practice the lesson:
Have the learners interview each other and take notes. Have them prepare a dialog to introduce each other to the class.

Assess the lesson:
The teacher will provide constructive criticism to each of the learners regarding their introductions.

Apply the lesson to the real world:
The learners will use this skill outside of the classroom and introduce themselves to a new person by the next class period.
