Objective: To ask and answer WH- questions for location and other purposes.
Materials: Phone book pictures and/or signs, teacher generated community map (with student input), dry erase board and markers, list of WH- questions.
Estimated time needed to prepare for this lesson plan: 1 hour
Estimated time needed to complete this lesson plan: 4 hours
The Lesson Plan
Introduce the lesson:
I am lost at the mall: Introduce scenario of being lost at the mall. Introduce
related vocabulary words- escalator, directory, information booth, department
stores, specialty stores, food court, hours, sales associate, parking, Continue
the scenario “I want to find…” To the Security Guard: “Where
is the lost and found?”, “What do I do? I’ve lost my keys
to my car/child,” etc.
Teach the lesson:
Teacher will model – WH- questions that are related to location.
- Where is the bathroom?
- What are your hours?
- Where is the food court?
- What is the sales price?
- Where is the dressing room?
Practice the lesson:
Teacher modeling with a more advanced student on day one; students practice
asking questions for 15-20 minutes in pairs each class period until
lesson is completed.
Assess the lesson:
Teacher monitoring and student evaluation by having volunteers role model
with questions and answers.
Apply the lesson to the real world:
The students will be able to ask questions in public spaces, such as,
the mall.
