Title: Making a Doctor’s Appointment

Objective: To create a method for oral communication in a doctor’s office or over the phone
Materials: Telephone books, whiteboard, markers, toy telephones
Estimated time needed to prepare for this lesson plan: 30 minutes
Estimated time needed to complete this lesson plan: 1 hour
The Lesson Plan
Introduce the lesson:
Create a scenario: Learner falls out of the chair and breaks a limb. Discuss:
What are you supposed to do? Who do you call? When can the doctor see me? Is
it an emergency?
Teach the lesson:
Teach vocabulary (injury-related body parts, sickness, etc.); review
parts of speech; simple past tense; telephone etiquette. Find
emergency numbers in the telephone book.
Practice the lesson:
Learners role play a medical situation in pairs
Assess the lesson:
Learner pairs present role play to the class
Apply the lesson to the real world:
Learners will create a checklist of what to do in an emergency situation.
