Materials: Cell phones – to use as props

The Lesson Plan
Introduce the lesson:
As a class, review the importance of making 911 calls at work. Ask the
students if any of them have made a 911 and have them discuss this
experience.
Teach the lesson:
As a class discuss the different emergency situations that may arise
while at the workplace. Also with the class discuss the various types
of emergency support that they might interact with when placing a 911
call.
Practice the lesson:
In pairs, have an intermediate or beginner student pretend to make an
emergency 911 call while an intermediate or advanced student acts as
the dispatcher. The emergency situation should be one that could occur
at the workplace.
After making the calls, have each pair discuss to the class what they learned for the activity. Have students practice making “wh” questions and answering “wh” questions
Assess the lesson:
Teacher observation and student feedback of the learning activity.
Apply the lesson to the real world:
Using this hands-on approach will help the students if they are ever
in an emergency situation and need to make an emergency 911 call.
