Objective: Explain symptoms to doctor.

Materials: Picture dictionary, body diagram

Estimated time needed to prepare for this lesson plan: 30 minutes

Estimated time needed to complete this lesson plan:6 hours

The Lesson Plan

Introduce the lesson:
Use a picture card and ask the students if the individual is sick. Have the students speak about their last doctor’s visit.

Teach the lesson:
In small groups have the students label body parts and discuss common ailments. The students should be using simple present tense and focusing on grammar and vocabulary.

Practice the lesson:
In pairs, have a beginner student pretend to be a patient while an intermediate student acts as the doctor They should practice discussing different symptoms of common aliments.

Assess the lesson:
Teacher observation of students’ role play and review of body parts and common ailments. Also ask for student feedback of the learning activity

Apply the lesson to the real world:
Using this hand-on approach will help the students the next time they go to the doctor’s office.
