Objective: To demonstrate using verbal skills by planning a family vacation.
Materials: Internet access, maps, newspapers, magazines

Estimated time needed to complete this lesson plan: 16 hours
The Lesson Plan
Introduce the lesson:
Students will be asked to think about a vacation they would like to take
with their families. The discussion should center around the plans
that goes into taking a family vacation.
Teach the lesson:
As a class, explain to students what is needed to plan a family vacation.
Practice the lesson:
In small groups, students will plan a family vacation by car. They can
be given an expense allowance or a vacation budget amount so that they
will learn how to staying within spending limits. They will use maps
for directions and for estimating mileage. They will research gas prices
in order to estimate the fuel expense. Each member of the group will
focus on one aspect of the planning and report his or her findings
(e.g. mode of transportation, time, expenses, sights, etc.)
Assess the lesson:
Instructor feedback throughout the project should be given on an individual
basis.
Apply the lesson to the real world:
Students should be able to plan an actual family vacation. They should
also be able to address time and budget constraints which are transferable
to a number of real world situations.
