The Lesson Plan
Introduce the lesson:
As a class discuss ways that are used to acquire information about health
issues. As students brainstorm this topic emphasize technology as a
medium for learning about health topics.
Discuss how context clues or keywords are used as a beginning point to research information.
Teach the lesson:
Have the students research information about diabetes using Google. Give
students a few context or keywords to use such as “diabetes,
treatment, diet, care.” After about 30 minutes, as a class students
should report back on the information they discovered.
Practice the lesson:
Each student should research health topics that are of interest to them.
After printing out information, a whole class discussion can be used
to compare findings.
Assess the lesson:
Peer feedback and instructor feedback on individual findings from the
research activity.
Apply the lesson to the real world:
Students should be able to research information as needed that relates
to their personal health or family health care.
