The Lesson Plan
Introduce the lesson:
Have students brainstorm various locations of the building they frequent
most often. Suggest other locations students do not name but are areas
they may need to locate.
Teach the lesson:
Assign each student a specific place to locate in the building and report
back to class in writing how to get there (e.g. registrar’s office,
a public pay phone, etc.).
Practice the lesson:
The activity “Where Am I” is carried out to practice this
lesson. In pairs, one student will give directions to the other student.
The student receiving the directions listens, repeats what is heard,
follow the directions, and returns with an answer to the student giving
the directions. The process is repeated with students reversing their
roles.
Assess the lesson:
Teacher observation and feedback to students individually and as a group.
Apply the lesson to the real world:
Students can apply this lesson when they need directions downtown, in
a mall, or a place of business.
