present aspects of the immigration struggle. The paper will also point
out how differences in cultures can create conflict. The expected outcome
is a better awareness of differences in beliefs and cultures.
Teach the lesson:
Have students work individually to search for immigrant stories on the
Internet or provide stories for them to read. Allow one class period
for students to read the stories they have collected. As a class, have
students prepare a chart that showing the similarities of their stories.
Students can then begin their initial draft. The next class session
students complete their initial drafts, make limited revisions, and
begin preparing a final multi-paragraph paper for submission.

Additional practice on writing can be offered to students individually
to create a list of weak areas.
Assess the lesson:
The teacher should discuss the paper with each student to address individual
language needs.
