Introduce the lesson:
Question students about their understanding of precise language. Define
on the board “imaginary” and give a handout on precise language (teacher-made).
Teach the lesson:
Each student independently writes three imaginary words (3 minutes) to
describe beef fajitas. The teacher writes the words on the board.
Practice the lesson:
Students write an imaginary paragraph describing a form of transportation
without naming the form. Then students read their paragraphs,
and classmates try to identify the form of transportation.
Assess the lesson:
Determine whether classmates can identify the form of transportation
from the imaginary paragraphs. The teacher also evaluates the
written paragraph.
Apply the lesson to the real world:
Students are able to understand the importance of precise language in
written and verbal communication.
