Objective: To write an organized paragraph with at least 2 supporting details on a topic specified by instructor
Materials: Paper, pencils, topic ideas—cards, magazines, newspapers, board and graphic organizer, graphic organizers (blank) on paper.
Estimated time needed to prepare for this lesson plan: 30 minutes
Estimated time needed to complete this lesson plan: 2 hours
The Lesson Plan
Introduce the lesson:
As a class, define a paragraph; topic; detail. Then talk to the class
about when a new paragraph should begin.
Teach the lesson:
Show visuals to inspire a topic; use graphic organizers to outline class-chosen
topic and details. Write paragraph on board.
Practice the lesson:
Students choose their own topic; use graphic organizers; write paragraph.
Assess the lesson:
The students present their paragraphs to class, then as a class the students
give feedback to each other’s work.
Apply the lesson to the real world:
Write a note to a doctor, teacher, or landlord.
