Materials: Measuring tape; graph paper; rulers; textbook with mathematical references (formulas)

The Lesson Plan
Introduce the lesson:
Discuss how carpet is sold. Ask various questions about carpet installation.
Teach the lesson:
Review key terms with students. Use textbook to introduce formulas (esp. “area”)
Practice the lesson:
Learner groups will measure the “living room” (classroom). They
should give measurements in square feet and square yards.
Assess the lesson:
Compare measurements with other groups to ascertain accuracy.
Apply the lesson to the real world:
Get a newspaper and find out the price of installing carpet based on
advertisements.
