Objective: To make change using American coins and currency.

Materials: American currency and coins

Estimated time needed to prepare for this lesson plan: 25 minutes

Estimated time needed to complete this lesson plan: 45 minutes

The Lesson Plan

Introduce the lesson:
Identify coins and currency by name

Teach the lesson:
As a class, practice giving change back from different amounts spent.

Practice the lesson: 
Have students pair up and practice giving change back from different amounts.

Assess the lesson:
Instructor checks periodically to ensure that students are giving correct change.

Apply the lesson to the real world:
Student feels comfortable giving or receiving change at a local store.
