EFFECTIVE TIME MANAGEMENT

Read the following information to the students.   There are several principles of time management.

1.  Break larger jobs into smaller parts

For example, if you have a test over three chapters in one of your classes, study one chapter on Sunday, another on Monday, and the third chapter on Tuesday. L On Wednesday review your class notes and on Thursday review your chapter notes.  It is much easier to study for a test if you break down the job into smaller parts.

2. Make a list of things to do every day

Each day make a list of the tasks to be accomplished.  At the end of the day check off all the tasks you accomplished.

3. Establish priorities

If you are like most people, your "To Do" list will have so much on it that it will be impossible to do everything in one day.  So you have to decide which tasks have priority.  This means that you decide which tasks will get your time and attention first.

4. Work on your priority items

Deciding on your priorities is not enough.  Next you need to work on them.

5.Don’t procrastinate

Procrastinate means to put off doing something. This often happens when there is a big job to do.  When you put off doing something that should be done, you usually feel bad or guilty. The best thing to do is decide in advance what you are going to do.  Then do what you planned.

6. Plan a balanced schedule

A good schedule allows plenty of time for sleep, leisure, exercise, and work.

7. Use small amounts of time

There are many things to do with five minutes.  For example, you can study vocabulary, read a little, or review your class notes.  But remember in order to use small amounts of time, you must have your work with you.

8. Be aware of your biological rhythms

Each of us has time during the day or evening when we feel the best.   Difficult work should be done during this peak period.

Here is your Weekly Time Chart.  At the end of each day, fill in the approximate number of hours you spent on each activity.
