PLANNING YOUR BLUEPRINT

Planning your blueprint is a process. It may take several steps to get it right.

Objectives

  •    Identify your long-term goal
  •    Identify the steps to achieve it
  •    Organize these steps
  •    Have a written plan for your continued learning and to help you achieve your goal
Procedure

1.   Think of the things you would like to achieve in your life.

2.   Write down your goals. Decide which ones are really important to you and which one you want to achieve first. Write it at the top of a piece of paper and at the top of your blueprint form.

3.   Make a list of the things you need to achieve your goal-special skills, education (eg, diploma, GED, college, etc) or training. These things become your objectives. Objectives are short-term steps or goals that you need to achieve to reach your main goal.

4.   Put the objectives in the order you wish to achieve them.

5.   Look at each objective and try to think of any problems you may need to solve to achieve it (eg, equipment or supplies, transportation, financing child care, etc). Make a list of the problems.

6.   Think about resources and ways to solve each problem. Write the solution down next to your list of problems. Do not go on to the next step until you have at least one solution for each problem .Try to identify two solutions for each problem. Keep your multiple intelligence strengths in mind.

7.   Make a chart with three columns. In the first column will be the list of objectives, the second column will contain the problems for each objective and the third column will contain your solution for each problem.

OBJECTIVE

PROBLEMS

SOLUTIONS

Obtain GED Child care Get family and friends to take turns babysitting
Improve Reading and Math Skills Child care costs Ask teacher or case manager about free programs

8.   Thinking about your current skills and intelligence strengths, determine the best way for you to proceed to achieve your first objective

9.   Think about your objectives and about how long it will take to complete each one. Do not put yourself under extra pressure. Be sure to give yourself plenty of time to complete each objective. Decide which objectives you can expect to complete in a year. Write the last objective you will achieve in a year on the second line of your blueprint form.

10. Think about the activities you can work on now that are related to your goal. Write these on the blueprint form. If you haven't done so, complete the multiple intelligence inventory. Write your strengths on the blueprint form.

11. Think about your skills and write them on the blueprint form too.

12. Look at your list of objectives and write down on your blueprint form the things you still need to learn.

13. Write on the last line the things you need to do to achieve your objectives. If there are many, write the major ones.
