Janell Baker has
worked in the field of adult education for ten years. She was the coordinator
of the ABE/GED Professional Development Center at North Harris College
for over two years, where she developed a New Student Orientation Resource
Guide. She has assisted adult education programs throughout the state
in planning and implementing student orientation programs. She is currently
a manager at Harris County Department Adult Education where she is
involved in implementing a program-wide new student orientation process.
Connie Munn received
an M.A. in Human Resources Management from Pepperdine University and
a B.S. from Texas Woman's University and has more than 25 years experience
in the nonprofit sector. Currently working as a nonprofit management
consultant in San Antonio, Texas, Connie's career has included a diverse
mix of challenges in nonprofit management and fundraising. Her career
positions have included Director of Development at the Nonprofit Resource
Center of Texas, Associate Director for the Arts Council of Greater
Baton Rouge, Executive Director for Girls Inc. of Augusta and positions
at Army Community Service and Texas Woman's University. She currently
serves on the executive committee as Secretary for the San Antonio
Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. She has been
a fundraising and volunteer management trainer in local, regional,
and national venues.
Amy Normand served
as the director of Project VITAL from 1999 to 2002. Shehas
a B.A. from Southwest Texas State University. Her adult education experience
includes that of coordinator and director of the Ten County Adult Education
Program, classroom teacher of ABE, ESL, ASE, and GED classes, and staff
development coordinator. Under her direction, Ten County became a field
development partner with the National Institute for Literacy in the Equipped
for the Future Systems Reform Initiative for five years. Currently,
Ms. Normand provides professional development training and consulting
services for adult literacy programs throughout Texas.
Robert Pinhero has
a consulting practice engaging in a variety of literacy activities
working with families, community organizations, government agencies,
schools and businesses. He is an adjunct consultant for the Texas Family
Literacy Center located at the University of Texas in Austin. His volunteer
work has included serving as the Board President of Texas Adult Literacy
Laubach (TALL), past president of South Central Literacy Action (SCLA),
a consortium of community based literacy providers in six-states, and
member of the National Steering Committee of Laubach Literacy. He assists
literacy programs with training, in-service presentations, and technical
support.
Jeanni Pruitt is
a graduate of the University of Texas at Tyler with a degree in social
work and foreign languages. Her experience includes her current position
as coordinator and ESL teacher for the Northeast Texas Community College
Downtown Adult Education Center and several other NTCC programs including
several worksite programs, Even Start, and Teen Challenge (GED). She
was also selected the 1999-2000 TALAE Full-time Teacher of the Year.
Cletis L.
Tatum has been involved in adult education since 1998. She
has been involved in many facets of adult education including new-student
orientation, classroom instructor, and program coordinator. Her specialty
is implementing student-generated project-based learning. She also
served as a member of the Credential Pilot Work Team and participated
in the ALMA National Institute in New York City.
University
of Texas-San Antonio ESL Professional Development Center was
a Texas Education Agency, Division of Adult and Community Education,
project funded to provide professional development to Adult ESL instructional
personnel in the state of Texas. From 1991-2002, the Center provided
staff development in the form of in-services, workshops, conference
presentations, regional and statewide institutes, and technical assistance.
It included hands on activities designed by the center for teachers
to use in their classes combined with the latest in adult education
theory and ESL methodology.
Jean Villa has
earned graduate degrees in Educational Administration and Communication
Education from Eastern Michigan University and has pursued doctoral
studies at Wayne State University in Detroit, MI. During her career,
she has been a classroom teacher, educational administrator, and resource
specialist. She has also served as a consultant to the New Jersey State
Board of Education and as an administrator and consultant to ABE and
ESL programs in Michigan. She is also a trainer and advisor to the
National Institute for Creative Education. She has produced a promotional
video, a book, a slide presentation, and brochures for the National
Communication Education Model and trains trainers and tutors nationwide
in the use of LITSTART, for which she served as a co-author
and (3rd edition) Revision Committee Member.
