Looking at Consequences

Whenever you make choices to take action, there are always consequences. What are some possible consequences to your achieving your goal? How will you feel? Will you think about your life or your self or others in a different way? Will you act differently? Will you be able to accomplish things you were unable to before? Will others think of you differently? Will your life significantly change? These are types of questions only you can answer. However, let's look at some different types of consequences.

Intrinsic Consequences
Extrinsic Consequences
self-mastery money
freedom praise from others

self-satisfaction

obtain a job
self-actualization (becoming who you want to be) advance in your job
joy / pleasure help children in school

You try. List some intrinsic / extrinsic consequences.

Consequences can also be immediate or delayed. For many people, immediate consequences serve as more effective motivators.

Immediate
Delayed
socialization level promotion
a sense of belonging promotion to ABE

You try it. List some immediate / delayed consequences.

Get into groups and discuss whether you respond more to intrinsic motivators or extrinsic motivators. Immediate or delayed motivators?
