Mission:
To prepare adult learners to gain the knowledge
and skills needed to become productive and responsible citizens.
The Dallas Independent School District is the 12th largest
school district in the nation. It’s Adult Basic Education program
serves two counties, Dallas and Rockwall, sixteen public school districts
and 19 charter schools. Our commitment to adult student learning and
success is reflected in our holistic, learner-centered instructional
programs of:
- Adult Basic Education (ABE): Provide basic skills instruction
(grade equivalency 0-8) in reading, writing, math and life skills.
- Preparation for the General Educational Development (GED) Certificate:
Provide adult secondary instruction (grade equivalency 9-12) in social
studies, natural science, math, language arts-reading and language
arts-writing.
- English-as-a-second Language (ESL): Provide oral and literacy
instruction in English language development for limited English
proficiency adults.
The instructional programs are also made available to:
- Adults Receiving Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF):
Recipients of state aid to dependent children through the Texas Department
of Human Services and the Texas Workforce Commission.
- Incarcerated Adults: Adult inmates of Dallas County Jail and half-way
houses.
- Limited English Proficient Adults attending EL-Civics classes to
learn how to become more involved in their communities through active
civic participation.
