Web Sites for EducatorsThe Cybrary: The Collaboratory Project This Web site is the result of an initiative to enable teachers and school librarians to identify resources on the Internet that support specific curriculum activities. Filled with ideas for lesson plans in various subjects. Teachers First's Election 2000 Provides teachers with a complete set of learning opportunities for students at any level. Topics include: People (a look at candidates and other key figures in congressional and presidential elections); Parties (the mainstream and the extreme - what they're saying, who listens, and what their impact might be); and Process (how our democracy works, who pays for it, how you can teach about it, and resources that can help). Word Play: Sites that Feature Fun with Words Check this site out. Lots of neat ideas for lesson plans. Especially great for ESL classrooms. La Cocina de Vida. (The Kitchen of Life) Texas teacher Anson Green provides the draft curriculum created as part of a TEA funded project, and is being field tested and expanded with support from the NIFL. The curriculum was developed for women making the transition into the workplace from public assistance, oppressive relationships, or with low expectations of what work can offer them. National Center
for Education Statistics New information is added daily so this database of education information will continue to grow. Parents & Children Together The Family Literacy Center's magazine, Parents and Children Together, is now available online. The magazine's goal is "to further the cause of family literacy by bringing parents and children together through the magic of reading." It features original stories and articles on issues related to children's reading and writing and book reviews of recent children's literature. The Teachers First Web page. This site is filled with ideas for the GED Social Studies classroom teacher. Some of the topics included are: current events, the year in review, great American speeches, democracy in America, states and capitals, presidents of the United States, and much more. |
