A True/False Test of Logic

Please indicate whether the following statements are true or false.

  1. To foster student learning is the ultimate goal of (educational) program evaluation.

  2. To foster student learning is the ultimate goal of assessments (including tests) that comprise that evaluation.

  3. Some assessments (some tests) impede student learning.

  4. Some assessments (some tests) used for program evaluation impede student learning.

  5. Since the ultimate goal of educational program evaluation is to foster student learning, assessments and tests which impede student learning should not be used.

For answers (actually, more questions than answers) see Answers.

This true/false test of logic and "answers" were developed by Victoria Hoffman, Adult Education Professional Development & Curriculum Consortium, Texas A & M University. Those who would like to pursue any errors in logic, or who have suggestions about how to resolve the apparent dilemma, are invited to e-mail Victoria Hoffman.
