Each edition of Literacy Links features some of the materials recently added to the Clearinghouse. All of these materials are available for loan. Borrowers must be affiliated with a program providing adult education services. Annotated bibliographies of the literacy resources are available. Availability depends on Clearinghouse supplies. Drawing on Experience: The Fundamentals of Good Writing.
Dumicich, John & Root, Christine (1996) This ESL textbook incorporates student drawing into the writing process. Each chapter has a theme or topic which is used to encourage students to brainstorm, then draw, and then write about their drawings. The text can be used at all levels of language proficiency, and the drawing activities are designed for ease of execution and enhancement of student receptiveness. (3 copies)

Mentoring: New Strategies and Challenges.
Gailbraith, Michael W. & Cohen, Norman H. (1995) This book covers a variety of issues on mentoring. Some of these issues are clarifying and describing the different mentoring processes, how to apply mentoring in adult education, and issues and challenges that occur in mentoring. (2 copies)

Tips at Your Fingertips: Teaching Strategies for Adult Literacy Tutors.
Brown, Ola M. (1996) This book is written in an easy to understand format. It is divided into six sections: Developing an Effective Adult Literacy Curriculum; General Tips and Instructional Strategies; Improving Reading Comprehension; Developing Writing Competence; Increasing Vocabulary, and Using Alternative Reading Material. There are also two appendixes consisting of word lists and alternative reading materials. A wonderful source of ideas for new and old tutors alike.

Enriching Our Lives.
Kazemek, Francis E. & Rigg, Pat. (1995) This book is an introduction to the writing of poetry for adults who have recently become literate. Chapters describe a variety of poetic forms in an easy to understand format. Also included is information on how to write poetry from a variety of perspectives. Included are poems for use as study aids for students.
