Each edition of Literacy News From Texas Features some of the materials recently added to the Clearinghouse. All of these materials are available free or on loan. Borrowers must be affiliated with a program providing adult education services. Annotated bibliographies of other literacy resources are available. Opportunities Lost and Lessons Learned: Inside a Workplace Literacy Program
This book is a good overview of establishing a hospital workplace program in a metropolitan area. It also contains a comprehensive reference section.

Workplace Literacy Publications: An Annotated Bibliography of Printed Resources
This book includes numerous resources for workplace programs in the following areas: assessment, curriculum, ESL, technology, and work restructuring.

Learning to Listen, Learning to Teach: The Power of Dialogue in Educating Adults
This book includes twelve basic principles of teaching adults ranging from needs assessment, relationships, and teamwork to accountability. The book has an easy to read format with challenges at the end of each chapter.

Adult Education Curriculum Guide
This is a three part comprehensive curriculum which includes instructional strategies, assessment, and lesson plans. Some of the specific items addressed are whole language, goal setting, portfolio assessment, and teacher tips.

Making Wise Buy
This is a workbook that applies math skills to everyday situations. Some of the topics addressed are supermarket math, installment buying, tipping, and saving for a vacation.

Applying Essential Skills: Level E: At Home
This is a basic life skills book. Unit topics include: What's the Phone Number for ...; What Happened?; Housing Issues; I Bought This But ...; and People All Around. Each unit has vocabulary and communication skills activities. The book is appropriate for ABE and high intermediate-level ESL learners.

Applying Essential Skills: Level E: In the Community
This is a basic life skills book which includes five units: Smart Shopping; It's Your Community; Cash or Charge?; On the Job; and Around the World. This book can be used with ABE and/or high intermediate-level ESL learners.

Avance Toy making Manual
This book contains a variety of inexpensive toys parents can make for their children. The toys the parents made were used during the parent-child interaction time. The guide was developed by a family literacy program.

Math Solutions: Whole Numbers and Money
This is the first title in the Math Solutions Series. Each unit stresses word problems and has a variety of exercises such as cross number puzzles, map reading, and real life application.

Math Solutions: Decimals, Fractions, Ratios, and Percents
This is the second title in the Math Solutions Series. This series stresses word problems and real life application. A variety of exercises are given.

Adults with Learning Disabilities and Employment
This is a series of two books: Learning Disabilities and the Workplace and Job Interview Tips for People with Learning Disabilities. The first book covers a wide variety of topics such as screening procedures, learning disabilities in the workplace, case studies, and resources. The second book includes an audio tape with a manual. This is designed to give learning disabled adults practice with job interviews.

What Research Has to Say About Reading Instruction
This is a book that covers a wide variety of topics such as whole language, assessment, and the disabled learner. Each chapter has its own reference section.

Training by Design Basic Set
This is a comprehensive training program geared towards volunteers. The basic set includes: Planning Literacy Workshops; Teaching Adults; A Literacy Resource Book; Literacy Workshop Presentation 1 and 2; and Literacy Workshop Photocopy Masters.

Prison Literacy: Implications for Program and Assessment Policy
This book illustrates the ever-increasing problem of illiteracy and criminality and the positive effects education creates.
