Greetings! This is the first issue of a newsletter which is being disseminated from the Texas Center for Adult Literacy and Learning (TCALL). In the past, you possibly received two publications from TCALL: FYI, from the Texas Literacy Resource Center (TLRC); and Notes From the Riverside, from the Adult Literacy Clearinghouse (ALC). However, in the spirit of collaboration being adopted among literacy providers in the state, staff members in all of our projects are combining their efforts to bring you timely, useful, and relevant news through one publication. Although our projects are funded through different agencies both within the state and from the federal government, we are collaborating among projects which have somewhat different goals and funding mandates. The common mission of all of our projects is to advance literacy efforts in Texas. After all, it is the newsletter recipient who is most important just as the learner is most important in our adult education programs. We are excited about this new endeavor and if you have comments about this first edition, information for the newsletter, or suggestions about how we can improve it in the future, please contact us at any time. We value your input! With this first issue, we are also eliciting your input on a new title for this newsletter. "Literacy News From Texas" may be somewhat dull. Please let us know your ideas by phone, fax, or mail. (Our address, phone, and fax number are provided on the front and back page of this newsletter). The new title and the "inventor's" name will appear in our next issue! - Don Seaman, Director, TCALL
