Their project, Gateway to American Opportunities, is a regional effort in Cherokee County and Rusk County. The lead agent is A Circle of Ten, Inc.(C10). C10 is a non-profit organization that teaches grantwriting, collaboration, & networking. C10 was part of a TIF funded multi-county project called East Texas Virtual Village (ETVV). At the county meetings Ms. Lustig networked with librarians, church members, school teachers and other individuals concerned about the literacy needs of their Hispanic Communities. Ms. Lustig collaborated with C10 and wrote the Verizon Literacy grant.
They received $25,000 to conduct ProLiteracy tutor trainings, talk with groups about literacy and promote literacy efforts in Cherokee and Rusk County. Five of their partners in this project will receive free ESL CD software "Rosette Stone" program and some of their partners will receive partial scholarships to A Circle of Ten, Inc. workshop "Process of Collaboration."
They received this information about the Verizon Literacy grant application from one of our TCALL listservs.
