National Adult Education Honor Society (NAEHS). The mission of the NAEHS is to provide meaningful recognition to deserving adult education students, to improve student employment opportunities, to develop student ambassadors for local adult education programs and to create adult education awareness with school administrators and state legislators. For Adult Literacy/ESL CESOL (Computers and English for Speakers of Other Languages) CESOL website is for teachers who are interested in integrating technology primarily into the adult ESOL/ ESL/EFL classroom. Maintained by Steve Quann, the site advocates a computer-mediated approach that includes: teaching computers to ESOL / ESL / EFL students in a way that integrates technology into the curriculum; using computer technology as a tool for improving teaching English language learning; developing project-based, cooperative use of computers and the Internet; and utilizing software appropriately in the computer-assisted language learning (CALL) lab. Since this is primarily a "pointer site," most of the material is linked to pages outside of CESOL. Computers in Action! Integrating Computer Technology into the ESOL Curriculum. Part of the CESOL website, Computers in Action Offers a series of stand-alone lesson plans for teachers using computers in the ESOL classroom, coauthored by Steve Quann and Diana Satin of the New England Literacy Resource Center. Topics: An Online Magazine for Learners of English. This site explores different topics of importance for Learners of English as a second language. Learners from around the world share their thoughts on a variety of issues, such as technology, language, food, culture and more. Learning Object: In, On, and At. In this Learning Object, learners find out about the prepositions 'in," "on," and "at" and look at examples of how to use these words. Learning Objects are small units of learning that can be used in conjunction with instruction or as a stand alone activity. The Wisc-Online Resource Center has a number of other Learning Objects for use in the ABE/ESL setting, ranging from English, Math, Science, Social Studies, Health and Financial Literacy. Check out all the Learning Objects at: http://www.wisc-online.com/index.htm. Math.com: The World of Math Online. Math.com is dedicated to providing revolutionary ways to learn math. This site provides activities that guide users to finding the solutions they need. In addition to activities and problems, this site offers interactive tools, such as a scientific calculator, percentages, and saving calculator. Building Big Activities. This curriculum, generated from the PBS Building Big Website, provides teachers with practical applications for using technology and reality based simulations with ready-to-go hands-on activities in the classroom. A teacher at the Idaho LCSC Adult Learning Center created this outline to pique students' interest and to connect classroom learning to real life experiences. For Family Literacy Busy Fingers, Growing Minds: Finger Plays, Verses and Activities for Whole Language Learning. Author Rhoda Redleaf offers on her Redleaf Press website this downloadable book (in pdf format) of ideas and strategies for encouraging a love of reading in young children. The introduction provides tips on writing with young children and making homemade books. The Learning Ladder. (Free login is required.) This free online reading and writing curriculum is specifically for Family Child Care Providers, Children and Families. This guide walks practitioners through various modules that support children, their parents and families with their literacy needs. This site has a section for Parents as Educators.
