Ask the Editor

Question:
I am a part-time adult education teacher. Does the Adult Literacy Clearinghouse provide services that would be useful to teachers?

Answer:
Many of our readers may not be aware that the Adult Literacy Clearinghouse (ALC) provides many valuable services not only for administrators and literacy providers, but also for teachers.

The Clearinghouse has a lending library containing materials available for loan to adult educators. Currently this collection consists of 14 areas of interest: citizenship, ESL, family literacy, GED, language arts, life skills, math, professional development, program development, reading, Spanish materials, special populations, study skills, and workforce literacy. You may request your personal copy of any or all of these bibliographies by simply contacting us.

The Clearinghouse also has many materials available for free which are collected from all over the country to include: teacher-made booklets, project publications, success stories, student-generated projects, curricula, and reports. To keep our materials up to date, we are continually locating and reviewing materials for inclusion into our collection.

If you need assistance in selecting materials or acquiring information, just call 800-441-7323 and you will be directed to the appropriate staff member to serve you. Teachers, remember we are here to help you as well as administrators and literacy providers. Give us a call!
