Each edition of Literacy Links features some of the materials recently added to the Clearinghouse. All of these materials are available for loan. Borrowers must be affiliated with a program providing adult education services. Annotated bibliographies of the literacy resources are available. Availability depends on Clearinghouse supplies.

Telling Tales: How to Produce a Book of Stories by Parents and Their Children

The authors walk the reader through the process of publishing writings from parents and children. It begins by
explaining how to set goals for the writing and implementing the process. From there the authors cover how to
produce the materials and give insightful tips. A great activity for the entire family literacy program.
Building Learning Power for Children & Adults Who Have Special Learning Needs

A notebook containing valuable information on working with people with special needs. The notebook has five
areas: definitions of special needs, definitions of accommodations, learning disabilities instructional strategies
and adjustments, attention deficit disorders instructional strategies and adjustments. This author has given a
multitude of suggestions to use with the learning disabled which make it a valuable resource!
Adult ESL Suggested Materials List 1995

teacher resources. Each entry is placed in a skill level along with author, publisher, abstract, and a price list.

My Dear Friend ...": A Basic Writing Program for Adults

The author incorporates a creative way to teach writing skills with this book. A new skill, such as how to be clear
in your writing, is addressed in each lesson. Then the author writes a letter to the student and the student is asked
to respond by writing a letter back. An excellent book for students who are not yet comfortable writing.
Job Search Education and Program Guide
by Kimeldorf, Martin (1994)
An in-depth workbook on how to search for the job that is right for you. The chapter titles are: What am I Worth?;
Exploring What's Out There; Paper Mountain; The Job Interview; and The Job Search Campaign. An excellent
book when working on job search skills. A teacher's guide is also included.
The Teacher/Facilitator: A Do-Able Journal for the Professional
Development of Educators of Adults

An easy to follow journal for personal professional development. The journal covers ten topics such as: Creating a
Learning Environment; Adults as Learners; Self-Directed Learning; Facilitating Learning (2 parts); and Using

several pages of questions and evaluations.

English Day by Day Series

This series includes a book for beginning ESL students and one for more advanced ESL students. The beginning
book covers such life skills as time, money, housing, and transportation. The second book builds on the first by
covering topics such as shopping, emergencies, banking, and the post office. The format of both books is the same.
Each unit gives the objectives, a vocabulary list, and a variety of exercises.
LD Toolbox

This packet is full of information in a variety of formats. There are three booklets titled: LD Toolbox, Dyslexia,
and Multicultural Issues. There is also an audiocassette and a CD-ROM. The packet covers most aspects of
learning disabilities including indications of a learning disability, teaching tips and additional resources.
Reaching Adult Learners with Whole Language Strategies

This book is a comprehensive book about how to teach adults using whole language. It is divided into four parts
titled: Agenda for Collaboration and Transformation; Getting to know Adult Literacy Learners; Sharing Whole
Language Strategies; and Tailoring the Curriculum. The book is full of ideas by giving sample lessons, portfolios,
and evaluations. It can be used by classroom teachers, volunteers, and one-on-one tutors.
