COABE 2006: A HUGE Success!COABE 2006 Conference was a huge success! That’s not just my opinion as conference co-chair. It’s based on general written comments, verbal comments from individuals, and emails received, the COABE 2006 Conference was a huge success. In fact, there were at least two individuals that want to make the Westin Galleria our permanent conference site. I feel the biggest contributing factor to the success of this conference was primarily due to the advanced planning by the Conference Planning Committee. Everyone did their job ahead of time which allowed for last minute adjustments to ensure that things ran smoothly at the conference. The teamwork exhibited by the committee was great. Almost every person on the committee was there with an extra pair of hands when and where they were needed both before and during the conference. There were so many very positive comments about the breakout sessions even those with standing room only. The facilitators did an excellent job of assisting the presenters with their handouts and collecting evaluations. Several individuals volunteered for more than one session. That committee (Jim Ratliff, Mary Geiger, and Nancy Crawford) did a wonderful job of recruiting, assigning volunteers and directing those volunteers at the conference. As a conference attendee from Georgia stated in an e-mail “Your volunteers were particularly wonderful, and they were everywhere they needed to be.” The conference’s success is directly attributable to the hard work of a lot of people; starting with the Committee Chairs. I guess you could say, “Houston, we had a successful conference.” I appreciate all that hard work. It sure made the conference chairs look great! Janell Baker
