  • Project-Based Learning Hot Topic Packet. July, 1999. The Texas Adult Literacy Clearinghouse has just compiled this resource filled with information about project-based learning. Topics include: What is Project-Based Learning? How do I get started? How do I get my students involved? How can I use the Internet in project-based learning?
  • HIV/AIDS: A Collection of Stories and Skits was produced by ESL students at the Jamaica Plain Adult Learning Program and funded by the Massachusetts Department of Education. This collections includes: Our Impression of the AIDS Quilt, HIV/AIDS Skits, and Student Writings.
  • How to Feel Good: Learning to Relax and Exercise: An Invitation was also produced by ESL students at the Jamaica Plain Adult Learning Program in Massachusetts and edited by the Adult Literacy Resource Institute. This student written publication covers: What is stress? When do we feel stressed out? What can we do when we are stressed out? What are good ways to exercise? Where can we exercise?

  • Web-Based Lesson Plans has been compiled and edited by the Adult Literacy Resource Institute. This is a collection of six lesson plans designed around students using the Web. You may download the collection at http://www.alri.org/pubs/lessonplans.html
  • What is Portfolio Assessment? Hot Topic Packet, May, 1999. The Texas Center for Adult Literacy and Learning has compiled this new Hot Topic Packet to include: Standardized tests; an overview of portfolio assessment with adult learners; Web sites on portfolio assessment; selected ERIC Digests on Assessment/Portfolio Assessment; plus more.
  • Proposal Writing Hot Topic Packet. July, 1999. The Adult Literacy Clearinghouse has compiled this packet to provide information for those seeking funding from grants. Topics include: Grant and funding sources. Tips for writing better proposals. Updated Internet Web sites about proposals and funding.

  • Safeguarding Your Technology: Practical Guidelines for Electronic Information Security was produced in 1998 by the Technology and Security Task Force, National Forum on Education Statistics. This guide was developed specifically for educational administrators to "serve as a framework to help them better understand why, and how, to effectively secure their organization's information, software, and computer and networking equipment. Written in nontechnical language, it emphasizes a step by step approach to protecting the education information in a technology-based system, regardless of computer or network type and technical savvy".
