materials are available for loan. Borrowers must be affiliated with a program providing adult education services.

Smart Solutions: Measurement and Data Analysis

This book is part of a series of math books titled Smart Solutions, formerly called Math Solutions. The unit titles in
this book are: Distance, Space, and Time; Capacity, Weight, and Temperature; Organizing and Summarizing
Data; Displaying Data on a Graph; and Analyzing Data. This series stresses word problems and real life
application. A variety of exercises are given and a teacher's guide is included.
Smart Solutions: Algebra and Geometry
by Howett, Jerry. (1996)
This is the last book in the Smart Solutions Math series. The subjects covered
are: The Basics of Algebra; Putting Algebra to Use; The Basics of Geometry;
Using Geometry; and Combining Algebra and Geometry. This book also stresses
word problems and real life application. A variety of exercises are given and
a teacher's guide is
included.
An Introduction to Helping Adults Learn and Change
by Robinson, Russell D. (1995)
This book has an easy to read format and covers all aspects of adult learning. Some sample chapter titles are:
Adult Motivation: Needs, Preceptions, Affect; Adult Experience: Interests and Values; and Conducting
Evaluation: Instructional Improvement. Each chapter is laid out in an outline format with application worksheets.
There is also an extensive bibliography of additional resources. An excellent book to gain a fresh outlook on
teaching adults.
Learning Strategies for Adults: Compensations for Learning
Disabilities

This is a little book packed with practical information for adult literacy practitioners. Compensatory learning
strategies for adult students with learning disabilities are presented in a straight forward manner. An informal
diagnostic process, HELP (Holistic Educational Literacy Process) is introduced. It is an easy-to-follow assessment
method for adult educators in a variety of settings. An excellent reference list is included for further reading.
Poverty: A Framework for Understanding and Working with
Students and Adults from Poverty

An easy to read book about working with people in poverty. It covers aspects of poverty such as the role of
language, generational poverty, support systems, and improving achievement. This book gives much needed
insight through scenarios on ways to work with children and adults in poverty.
