Texas Literacy Resource Center Project
One of the projects currently being implemented by staff of the Texas Literacy Resource Center project is the development of software to track and evaluate students in adult education and literacy programs in Texas. This will enable local administrators to acquire more and better data about their students in order to design learning activities appropriate to meet the adults' learning needs. This software will be particularly useful for programs with the larger enrollments in the state. A limited field-test has been conducted with the Ten County COOP at Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos. Seven sites were included in the collection and analysis of student data. An evaluation of that project activity is currently being conducted to assess and expand the usability of this computer program to other adult education programs and groups in Texas.
The Southern Literacy Communication Commission is a part of a National Institute for Literacy grant to share literacy resources and information among fourteen southern states over the Internet. The consortium started in four states with World Wide Web pages and has grown to eight state Web pages. We hope to have all southern state Web pages up by the end of the month. We have added the Adult Basic Education Toolkit and made it downloadable to your computer from our Web site. Another part of this project is bringing local literacy programs like the Urban Literacy Coalition online to use these resources. In addition to these activities, we have started including links to Texas literacy programs that have resources on the Web.
*Webmaster Note: This project is no longer active. The Adult Basic Education Teacher's Toolkit can be found on the Texas Center for Adult Literacy and Learning Web site. Please note the "dash" between www and tcall.
